City of Eugene, Oregon
City of Eugene, Oregon
LOOKS LIKE HERE WAS THERE... THEN.
----- from "RESEARCHER" Carol to me re: EUGENE, OREGON - history --------------------
Have you ever heard of Joaquin Miller? When he was 15 in 1852, he came over THE TRAIL to Eugene City. Became the envy of Mark Twain, friend of Walt Whitman. Years after his death Buffalo Bill & Wild Bill Hickock would try to dress like him. Buckskins, Bowie knives & flamboyant hats.
Frontier Poet Dandy.
I stumbled upon a quote of his:
"I'm deeply religious when I'm drunk, and when I am deeply religious with out being drunk, it's a
sign I need a drink."
---------------Joaquin Miller
Another factoid, his wife filed for divorce when the local newspapers reported she had been seen partying "with circus people in Eugene City."
He puts Woody Guthrie & Dylan to shame in regards to personal myth-making!
Mention him to Stephen.
He was the Jimi Hendrix of the 1870's.
I hope I found a web address for you that you check every once in a while.
Due to my Hotmail scramble, I'm sceptical.
love,
Carol of Eugene (now Portland, OR)
